    setting up a Nas? Go with FreeNAS. Its based off bsd, doesnt come with unneeded stuff a full distro would have, and its super easy.

    I use BSD and *NIX all over the house, I also use Windows shares but have the shared media mapped into simple share names like Movies, Music, Apps, and categories under them so anywhere on the lan you are able to find it , play it use it, watch it , even on the XBOXes.

    I've used Ubuntu Server ed. for all of my home servers. The LAMP install makes it very easy to setup a full featured server fast.
